Managing the Weed
I was outside draw some weeds before this morning in court. It is frustrating having to go every week to pull weeds would grow further in their place. And I recognized that my problem is that I separate the weeds, but smaller countries, which are difficult to see, left to develop. They are those who, for next week!
It is more that the many problems we face as leader. Each day, there are several fire drills, that we are. One is the greatest impact on our performance or “strong” tend to immediate attention. But what about these “small weeds” or small problems, because the outside. Nothing left these questions rather to develop and next week high weeds.
Suppose that you have in the management of 15 persons. All 15 have characteristics of the beginning and end of his coat. The majority welcomes your team start and end, and in all that you do not have a big problem with the level of service available to your team. But you have 2 people who tend to end, the office and usually the first to leave. A look closer is to say that a few minutes late, and leave a few minutes before. This is not the performance of the team or your customers “yet”, but make sure that every week, time to grow by small amounts.
So, how to develop this example, more weeds? Well, two questions here. One, you can see the trend as the 2 crew members to spend time in each of their layer, and finally 10-20 minutes too late and leave early each day for several minutes. The trend, it becomes a problem, you need to stop the development because they have a negative impact on levels of service at this point.
The second question, and much more, this “weed” is finally starting to develop new weeds smaller. You will soon be a patch of weeds, and it becomes much more effort. In other words, for the 13 team members, aimed time, they begin to see that this problem be late and leave early is acceptable. One day, they have a problem and would really enjoy the house a few minutes earlier. Or which reads in the late, but to realize that, even if they take time for coffee on the way, you will not supply. Now you have a lot of people in your team and fro in periods outside of the relocation necessary, and the level of service Tanked!
So the moral of the story is aware, every day, small weeds are growing. If someone shows a few minutes late, make sure you recognize, asking if everything is in order. You will not be angry, only sending a subtle message that you do, and it can not be a habit. This product is a great team performance, which respects and around it. And you do not pull weeds from week to week.
